The Intelligence Quotient (IQ), widely used as a proxy for “intelligence,” reduces it to a linear score that invites hierarchical comparisons. My research aims to quantify intelligence using genomic and other biological data and to develop a new indicator as an alternative to IQ. I envisage a future in which scientifically assessing and predicting intelligence enables children often labeled “high‑IQ” to spend enjoyable and productive time in optimised environments from an early age. As with the course formats I preferred while studying in Australia, education tailored to each learner’s patterns of thinking and understanding can improve how others perceive them and reduce unnecessary burdens, thereby creating settings where individuality can more readily flourish. Research at the genome–intelligence interface faces many challenges. I welcome active, cross‑disciplinary exchange!
