2017: Began medical school at University College London (UCL)
2020: Awarded BSc in Immunology, Infection and Cell Pathology (best overall results of cohort)
2017-2021: Received multiple awards from UCL for excellent academic performance
2021: PhD candidacy at UCL funded by scholarship awarded from Cancer Research UK (focus: data-efficient machine learning to study the T cell receptor, a key protein in the human immune system)
2024: Planned return to my 5th year of medical school
I am a medical student and PhD candidate with a particular interest in developing data-efficient machine learning methods to better understand how our complex immune system works. I have papers and preprints published or under review at: Cell Systems, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Nature Communications, Frontiers Immunology, arxiv.org, bioRxiv.org. I have also written and maintain open-source software for the computational immunology community. I strive to save and improve lives by proposing novel, principled applications of quantitative/statistical methods to medicine. For more info please see: www.yutanagano.com
