I am conducting research on the production of bioplastic (PHA) using crab shells, having been inspired by the crabs that are a specialty of my hometown of Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture. PHA is a type of bioplastic produced by microorganisms that ingest sugar and oil. However, the high price of feedstock such as rapeseed oil has resulted in increased costs. In my research, I became the first to discover a microorganism that produces PHA by ingesting crab shells (which are comprised partly of sugar), and I am currently conducting further research to improve the productivity and expand the scale of this production.
In addition to research, I also have a strong interest in a wide range of areas, such as business, music, sports, and design, and would like to engage with all of these areas to my satisfaction. My ideal would be to live my life in a way where pursuing ideas and projects that combine my interests would lead naturally to solving social issues and making people happy.
