Until today, I have been exploring my interest in the topic of health disparities in various ways, including writing a thesis on Tanzania’s health policies and systems based on my medical volunteer there, interning at a Tokyo-based startup company that provides remote diagnosis service in Bangladesh, analyzing the correlation between the family’s economic circumstances and the young adult’s health conditions in the United States, examining factors that contribute to regional disparities in life expectancy in Japan and more. Through these experiences, I realized that a single word, “health disparity,” changes the context depending on each country’s political, economic, and societal situations, and it is multi-layered. Thus, I would like to broaden my horizons by comparing each country’s health policies and systems and exploring the application of technology into the medical field to reduce health disparities across the world. Besides, I aspire to understand the social determinants of health from qualitative and quantitative aspects and consider how systemic change can be brought in the field where vested interest is strong.
