To obtain useful knowledge from data that is nothing but a list of numbers, it is important to have the ability to understand this background well, guess what is reasonable regarding how they were generated, and verify them. So-called “AI research” is progressing at a rapid pace in recent years, including natural language processing, and computer vision, bioinformatics. I believe all of these are based on a multifaceted viewpoint regarding data that is characteristic to various fields, which has been accumulated through trial and error by countless engineers and researchers over many long years. I will conduct my research founded on my conviction that one must be widely curious, and that statistics can generate diverse value through cooperative efforts with experts who have thorough knowledge and skills in each field.
